Giraffe Facts

Some fun facts:

~Giraffe hearts are 2 feet long and weigh 25 lbs
~Giraffe heads weight up to 30 lbs
~Male giraffes can reach up to 18.5 ft tall
~Giraffe don't sleep much. They take 3-5 minute naps. The longest recorded sleep ever was 12 minutes
~Giraffe can kick with all four feet in all directions
~Giraffe have 7 neck vertebrae, just like us
~Giraffe have 18 inch tounges
~When giraffe give birth they do it standing up. The baby falls ~ 6 feet to the ground
~Giraffe weigh ~ 150 lbs when they are born
~Gestation is 14 months
~The giraffe's closest relative is the okapi (look them up- they are cool!)
~Giraffe can run 35 mph
~Blood pressure is about 280/180
~The Masai giraffe (the kind we have) are the biggest subspecies
~Despite what some people think, they are VERY smart!
